PR gap study talk 13 Nov, Dubai
 

Professor Jerry Swerling, Director of the Strategic Public Relations Center at USC Annenberg School for Communication in Los Angeles, will give a talk on Tuesday, 13 November 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dubai on "Trends in public relations and their implications for the future: Headlines from the GAP and Media Myths Studies".

Attendance is free of charge for MEPRA members and their guests.

Jordanian agency joins MEPRA
 

Amman-based Bidaya Corporate Communications has joined MEPRA as a full member. Established in 2004 by Jumana Twal, the agency now has a team of ten executives and provides services some of Jordan's biggest brands.

New MEPRA 2007/2008 Committee
 

The new 2007/2008 MEPRA executive committee has been formed following the association's annual general meeting this week with Jack Pearce being elected as the new chairman of the committee. The new committee consists of 10 committee members (up from the 9-member committee last year) and four of the ten join the committee for the first time.

MEPRA suspends Gambate membership
 

MEPRA has indefinitely suspended the membership of Dubai-based agency, Gambate, with immediate effect.

MEPRA chairman Sadri Barrage confirmed that the action has been taken for breaches of MEPRA’s Code of Conduct.

"All MEPRA members have a responsibility to comply with the Code of Conduct, and we have a responsibility to our members, and to the PR industry as a whole, to ensure the Code is strictly enforced," said Barrage.

Gambate joined MEPRA as a Full Member in December 2005.

   
MEPRA-ICCO College Launched
 

MEPRA announced the launch of the MEPRA-ICCO College together with visiting ICCO Secretary General Simon Quarendon at a gathering of members and representatives of the media on 12 December. In partnership with the ICCO College, the MEPRA-ICCO College offers online PR training courses for entry-level executives and senior staff.

Changes to membership criteria
 

MEPRA has completed its 2006 review of membership criteria and fees, which was carried out in line with changing market conditions and the association's future plans. Following a meeting of MEPRA's Executive Committee in November, the criteria and fees have been adjusted and are now shown in the website section on Joining MEPRA.

Fees & Charges Guide 2006
 

MEPRA has published its first Agency Fees and Charges Guide in an effort to encourage transparent dealings between public relations agencies and their clients in the region. MEPRA has produced the guide in response to the growing demand for knowledge regarding PR agency practices from both PR practitioners and buyers of PR services.
