2021 has been the most significant year so far for the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. In April 2021 we announced the historic launch of commercial operations of Unit 1 of the Barakah Plant and five months later we announced the successful start-up of Unit 2. The Barakah Plant is now almost half way to achieving the goal of supplying up to 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs completely carbon free.

Our communications strategy has focused on showcasing the transition from construction to operations, the importance of clean electricity for powering the country and how the Plant is leading the largest decarbonization effort in the region. We have achieved high levels of awareness and positive sentiment through communicating electrification, climate change, inspiring youth and bringing pride to the UAE during the Golden Jubilee.
