On 10th February 2022, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and Hill + Knowlton Strategies (H+K) marked the first-ever Arabian Leopard Day, creating a campaign that spotlighted the plight of this critically endangered species with a day worthy of official recognition by the UN – an effort that takes approximately two years.
Arabian Leopard Day was created by RCU to make Arabian Leopard conservation a priority on the agendas of global decision-makers and opinion leaders, with the regional integrated campaign looking to draw attention to the precarious existence of the 200 surviving leopards in the wild.
Rallying the worlds of conservation, governance, and business, the campaign created awareness and instilled pride across the region by engaging, educating, and encouraging the protection of the critically endangered species, inspiring action to safeguard the habitats of the critically endangered species, protecting their numbers and reversing their decline.
