This comprehensive one-day course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to produce professional quality video for the web and social media using only a Smartphone or iPad and a few inexpensive apps and accessories.

Mobile video journalism, or ‘MoJo’, is ideal for those on a low budget, who need to travel light or who need to generate video coverage against the clock. Shoot and then edit on the same device – in the field, on a plane, in a coffee bar! A video studio in your pocket. If you can use your phone you can produce quality video.

Course objectives:

  • Capturing professional quality video footage using your smartphone or iPad
  • Editing video quickly and efficiently on your smartphone or iPad
  • Creating captions and subtitles
  • Uploading video content to social media

Facilitator: John Whyte-Venables MCIPR

 

John Whyte-Venables MCIPR specialises in showing people how to make professional looking video for the web using mobile devices and currently leads on multimedia skills training at the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

John’s background is in BBC radio, television and online news, where he worked as a reporter, specialist correspondent and trainer. He set up and ran the BBC’s first international local radio school, in Bucharest, Romania. He also has over 30 years’ experience as media interview trainer for a wide range of blue-chip clients, including government agencies and departments, the University of Cambridge and the UK Environment Agency.

An expert on the nature of news and news values, John is a former Press Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge. He is the author of What is NewsHandling Media Interviews (both books available from Kindle) and Communications Skills for Engineers and Scientists.

Accreditation: MEPRA is currently working with the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) on establishing a partnered Continuous Development Program (CPD). This course will be recognised within the CPD framework and count towards becoming a CIPR and MEPRA Accredited Public Relations Practitioner. The CPD Framework will be launched in Q3 2017.
