This complimentary, members-only event will provide a 1-0-1 on podcasts with a panel of speakers from the media, Sony Music and podcasting startup, Sowt, each of whom are ahead of the curve, talking about why the opportunity is now for podcasts in the region. 

Podcasts are booming. The number of podcast downloads crossed 2.6 billion globally last year. According to a survey by Audioboom, 42% of respondents said they were listening to podcasts more often this year compared to last year – the highest response of its kind among all types of digital media that were considered. So, whilst in the Middle East podcast listening is still in its infancy, with a strong heritage in storytelling and radio listening remaining high, it’s primed to take off.

Led by Cheryl King, Managing Director, markettiers MENA, the region’s only dedicated broadcast specialist consultancy, Cheryl drives the business that leads the market in live streaming, content production broadcast media relations for both corporate and consumer brands, delivering award-winning campaigns and four Guinness World Records. Cheryl is uniquely placed to advise on broadcast media appetite and consumption of rich media content in the UAE.

Alongside Cheryl will be Mayss Al Alami, Program and Business Officer of sowt.com a podcasting startup focusing on producing Arabic audio; Mayss specialises in the concept, research and execution of client projects.

Also joining the conversation will be Mike Fairburn, General Manager at Sony Music Entertainment Middle East; the label’s head office in Dubai drives creative innovation for MENA talent through dedicated teamsin the areas of global streaming and playlisting, digital marketing and distribution, PR and brand partnerships – to name but a few. Prior to joining Sony Music, Mike spent six years at the region’s biggest entertainment company – FLASH Entertainment.

The above mentioned panelists will also be joined by Ayesha Khan, Podcast Producer at The National, providing valuable insights to their regular podcasts. The National publishes across all digital platforms with more than 10 million page views a month. Prior to joining The National, Ayesha worked in the media with companies such as the BBC, ARN and Vice.

The panel session will also see the launch of new research delivered on the podcast landscape and consumption in the UAE.

The event will begin with a members networking session. Breakfast refreshments provided.

MEPRA has partnered with UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) to establish a continuous professional development (CPD) program.
