The Opportunity

As Editorial Manager – English, the incumbent will work closely with the Senior Manager Editorials – English and the Arabic equivalents at RAK Government Media Office with a focus on securing national, regional and international media coverage for the Office’s different stakeholders. He/she will be responsible for delivering content that enhances the profile of RAKMO and/or Ras Al Khaimah as a whole. The incumbent will also serve as a co-ordinator between Editorial & Social Media teams. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a commitment and ability to develop integrated media skills and techniques.

Responsibilities

Planning and Strategy:

  • Helping the Head of Media Relations & Editorial develop and enhance the Editorial strategy and implement the Media Relations strategy for RAKMO.
  • Helping develop the key messaging framework for RAK Media Office and its stakeholder constituencies.

Operations:

  • Draft articles, op-eds, letters to the editor, social media posts, blog posts and scripts for RAK Media Office and its stakeholders.
  • Compose and edit press releases, organization literature & newsletters in English.
  • Writing media advisories and statements, organizing media round tables and journalists’ visits to Ras Al Khaimah.
  • Ensure that the content for social media and otherwise adheres to RAKMO styles and regulations.
  • Be the coordinator between the social media and editorial teams.
  • Help in developing RAK Media Office English media relations programs that increase awareness and provide positive media exposure for the key stakeholders among top tier media (including local, regional and international media).
  • Help align RAK Media Office media priorities and messaging with other RAK Government entities.
  • Help manage communication between RAK Media Office and various English media outlets, including print, online, broadcast, radio, bloggers, podcasters and other online influencers/bloggers.
  • Support content marketing and social media campaigns with aligned editorial strategy and content.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Use existing media monitoring tools to deliver weekly reports to key stakeholders on coverage gained and public engagement.

Relationship Management:

  • Plan and engage with different stakeholder constituencies, understand their needs from a Media Relations & Editorial perspective.
  • Maintain effective agency partners / media relationships for continuous improvement in value creation initiatives.
  • Establish relationship with strategic partners to ensure that mutually beneficial outcomes for all parties involved are realized and sustained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Media Relations & Editorial experience in a similar role gained with a recognized organization(s).
  • Exceptional writing & reading abilities in English and presentation skills; a skilled lead spokesperson.
  • Possesses strong media relationships.
  • Extensive experience developing media strategies, pitching stories, working with or writing press releases and planning press events.
  • Extensive knowledge of media landscape and thorough knowledge of the needs of different media and communication tools for digital, print and broadcast.
  • Experience developing and leading media relations and PR campaigns for corporate, education, professional services, governmental, non-profit and/or consumer clients.
  • At least 10 years in Corporate Communications and/or Public Relations at a PR/Communications agency and/or in-house communications team and/or as a journalist.
  • Demonstrated skills as a writer, content creator and editor.
  • A high degree of comfort in managing multiple tasks and deadlines and working in a fluid and fast-paced media environment.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to various situations a must.
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages.
